Course Overview

This course meets the basic training requirements for all personnel intending to go to sea on merchant and/or fishing vessels. The package includes Elementary First Aid, Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Firefighting, and Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities. The training complies with regulation VI/1, paragraph 1 and section A-VI/1, paragraph 2.1 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites Required!
In order to complete STCW Basic Safety Training (BST), delegates must hold:
    Delegates must be at least 16 years of age. Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement

Delegates completing an STCW Basic Safety Training course package will be able to go to sea on merchant and fishing vessels

  • Certification: A Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) certificate will be provided upon successful completion of this course.
  • Certificate validity (months): 60
  • Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 5 years.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport
  • Health prerequisites: Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
