Course Overview
OPITO OERTM Further training gives offshore emergency response team members (OERTMs) the opportunity to practice and
maintain the skills required for their role. Delegates will have the opportunity to perform aspects of their role they cannot reasonably practice offshore.

In order to complete OPITO Offshore Emergency Response Team Member Further (FOERTM), delegates must hold:

- A valid and in-date OPITO OERTM certificate or OPITO OERTM Further certificate
Course Structure
Delegates will learn;- Entering and working in the fire incident area using safe working practices and procedures
- Locating and recovering casualties
- Selecting and using portable firefighting equipment to extinguish fires
- Extinguishing a fire and or securing an area
- Respond to a confined space incident
- Respond to an incident involving personnel at height
- Conducting and controlling breathing apparatus operations during incidents
- Maintain effective communications
Course Content
Delegates completing this training course will be able to;- Select and operate the correct firefighting equipment and media to extinguish different types of fires and secure the area
- Demonstrate breathing apparatus control board procedures
- Identify and don the appropriate emergency response personal protective equipment (PPE) required for an OERTM
- Operate, don and wearer check working duration breathing apparatus
- Participate in a incident brief
- Participate in a range of fire and non-fire related incidents under the direction of an offshore emergency response team leader (OERTL)
- Correctly select and use portable firefighting equipment
- Select, operate and flush foam firefighting equipment
- Effectively communicate with OERTLs and OERTMs during an incident
- Demonstrate key considerations and actions when entering and working in an incident area
- Demonstrate correct search and rescue procedures and techniques
- Demonstrate the correct steps involved in initial casualty assessment and recovery
- Participate in a post-incident debrief
More information
- Certification: An OPITO certificate will be issued upon successful course completion.
- Certificate validity (months): 24
- Target audience: OPITO-certified offshore emergency response team members (OERTMs) required to revalidate an OPITO OERTM certificate.
- Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 2 years.
- Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport.
- Health prerequisites: Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement.
