Course Overview

A GWO Blade Repair course involves inspecting and repairing common damages caused by erosion, stress, lightning strikes, bird strikes and cracks.

Delegates will learn how to repair the damage to the blade and bring it back to its original form while maintaining an aerodynamical state.

Successful completion of the GWO Blade Repair training will be assessed by direct observation throughout practical exercises and supplementary questions where appropriate. Delegates will also complete a theory test with a pass rate of at least 70%.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites Required!
In order to complete GWO Blade Repair, delegates must hold:
    Delegates must be WINDA registered before arriving for the course.

Course Content

Delegates completing this training course will be able to;

- Perform and document a wind turbine blade inspection

- Explain typical types of composite construction, materials and the importance of surface finish relating to aerodynamic performance and efficiency

- Prepare operate and maintain the correct tools and equipment, be it mechanical or electrical

- Demonstrate the ability to work safely with applicable chemicals while utilising the applicable PPE in a controlled manner throughout all phases of composite inspection and repair work

- Distinguish between and work safely in a controlled manner with epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester, methacrylate, reinforcement materials and solvents related to composite inspection and repair work

  • Certification: A GWO certificate will be issued upon successful completion.
  • Target audience: Personnel in the wind industry with roles specifically related to composite inspection and repair work.
  • Revalidation: There is no revalidation requirement for this training programme.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport
  • Health prerequisites: Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
