Course Overview

This course provides delegates with the knowledge and understanding of the role of the first aider, area assessment and dealing with major and minor illnesses. The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of the training programme content. On conclusion of the course delegates will have a practical assessment with oral questions.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites Required!
In order to complete First Aid at Work Requalification (SQA), delegates must hold:
    Delegates must be at least 16 years of age. Delegates must hold a recognised and valid certificate in First Aid at Work. If your certiifcate has expired, you are still able to attend this course but HSE recommends you attend the First AId at Work (3 day course), if more than 30 days has elapsed since expiry. Due to the physical nature of the course delegates must be able to complete a medical screening form prior to course commencement. Delegates must be able to understand and communicate clearly in English.

Course Content

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to;
- Understand the role of the first aider, act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure); choking or requires cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded; bleeding or suffering from shock
- Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)
- Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries; chest injuries; burns and scalds; eye injuries; sudden poisoning and anaphylactic shock
- Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)

  • Certification: A 3t Training Services certificate will be issued upon successful completion
  • Certificate validity (months): 36
  • Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 3 years.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport
  • Health prerequisites: Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
