Course Overview

ECITB Technical Mechanical Joint Integrity (TMJI) training is stage 3 in the ECITB/Step Change in Safety MJI model. This course includes all five modules. The training is for delegates who have completed all stage 1 modules (MJI10, MJI18 andMJI19) and stage 2 (workplace practice) and need to update their knowledge before taking stage 4 (ECITB Technical Tests).

In order to complete ECITB Combined TMJI10, TMJI11, TMJI18, TMJI19, TMJI20 , delegates must hold:
    In order to complete the TMJI Combined test, delegates will be required to provide evidence of experience based on one of the below classifications of worker type:

    New workers – Must hold a valid in-date MJI Combined certificate and a completed WBTA logbook (Work Based Task Assignment). The WBTA logbook must be signed by a supervisor or person of authority from the delegates employer, and entries cannot be accepted before 3 months after completion of initial MJI Combined training.
    Experienced workers – Must hold a valid in-date TMJI Combined certificate. If a valid in-date TMJI Combined certificate cannot be provided then experienced workers can provide a LOE (Letter of Endorsement) evidencing 3 years recent sustained experience and a trade discipline certificate such as an expired MJI Combined, TMJI Combined, mechanical/trade apprenticeship.
    Personal workers (generally not part of core crew) – Must hold a valid in-date TMJI Combined certificate. If a valid in-date TMJI Combined certificate cannot be provided then personal workers can provide a CV evidencing 3 years relevant, sustained experience and a trade discipline certificate such as an expired MJI Combined, TMJI Combined, mechanical/trade apprenticeship.

Course Content

Delegates completing the TMJI Combined will be able to;
- Successfully use the appropriate tools and equipment to dismantle, inspect flanges and report faults, prepare, assemble and secure a flanged pipework joint as per the specified drawing
- Use the appropriate tools and equipment to dismantle, inspect clamp connector components and report faults, prepare, assemble and secure a clamp connector joint as per the specified drawing
- Successfully use the appropriate tools and equipment to dismantle, inspect flanges and report faults, prepare, assemble and tension a bolted connection using hydraulic tensioning equipment as per the specified drawing
- Use the appropriate tools and equipment to dismantle, inspect clamp connector components and report faults, prepare, assemble and tighten a bolted connection using hydraulic torque equipment as per the specified drawing
- Successfully use the appropriate tools and equipment to dismantle, inspect clamp connector components and report faults, prepare, assemble and tighten clamp connector joint using hydraulic torque equipment to a specified drawing and within set tolerances

  • Certification: An ECITB certificate will be issued upon successful completion.
  • Certificate validity (months): 36
  • Target audience: Engineers and technicians who will be involved in the use of hand hydraulic torque and tensioning equipment.
  • Revalidation: The course must be revalidated every 3 years.
  • Items to bring: Government Issued Photographic ID eg Driver Licence or Passport.
