This course provides delegates with the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond appropriately in the event of a helicopter ditching offshore. The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions. Delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of key areas during this training course.
Please be aware OPITO have issued an update to all HUET Product specs, from Monday 19th January 2026 all delegates attending these courses in the UK will require a Shoulder Measurement ahead of completing the HUET position of the course.

Course Overview
Prerequisites
- A valid OGUK Medical (or equivalent).
- OPITO Shoulder Measurement
Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
Course Content
By the end of this training programme the delegate will;
- Understand the key principles behind the use of the emergency breathing system (EBS) and be able to use one with confidence in a water environment.
- Understand the actions to take during a surface evacuation into an aviation raft.
- Be competent in their ability to escape from a ditched helicopter in a submerged emergency situation using the emergency breathing system (EBS).
- Be able to board an aviation raft successfully from an in- water situation
Target Audience
The course is aimed at any personnel travelling to oil and gas installation/facilities via helicopter.
Certification
An OPITO certificate will be issued upon successful course completion.
Revalidation
The course must be revalidated every 4 years.
