Course Overview

The New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) Full Course is designed for both operatives and supervisors who need to carry out street works to the standards required by the NRSWA 1991

In order to complete NRSWA – Full Course, delegates must hold:
    Identification: Participants must bring an official form of identification, such as a passport or driver's license

Course Structure

The NRSWA Full Course typically includes the following modules: 1. Location and Avoidance of Underground Apparatus (Unit 1): Training on how to locate and avoid underground utilities. 2. Signing, Lighting, and Guarding (Unit 2): Covers the correct procedures for setting up signs, lights, and barriers to ensure safety. 3. Excavation in the Highway (Unit 3): Focuses on safe excavation practices. 4. Reinstatement and Compaction of Backfill Materials (Unit 4): Training on how to properly reinstate and compact backfill materials. 5. Reinstatement of Sub-Base and Road Base in Non-Bituminous Materials (Unit 5): Covers the reinstatement of sub-base and road base layers. 6. Reinstatement in Bituminous Materials (Unit 6): Training on how to reinstate surfaces using bituminous materials. 7. Reinstatement of Concrete Slabs (Unit 7): Focuses on the reinstatement of concrete surfaces. 8. Reinstatement of Modular Surfaces and Concrete Footways (Unit 8): Covers the reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways

Course Content

The NRSWA Full Course covers a comprehensive range of modules designed to ensure that operatives and supervisors are well-equipped to carry out street works safely and effectively.
1. Unit 1: Location and Avoidance of Underground Apparatus: Training on how to locate and avoid underground utilities.

  • Certification: Upon successful completion, participants receive an NRSWA accredited certificate and a Street Works card
  • Certificate validity (months): 60
  • Target audience: The course is suitable for: • Utility workers • Site supervisors and managers • Safety professionals • Experienced operatives involved in street work
  • Revalidation: NRSWA accredited certificate and a Street Works card, valid for five years
  • Items to bring: Participants are required to bring their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including: • Safety boots • Helmet • Gloves • Hi-vis coat or vest • Eye protection
